Lady Eagles Run Away From Lady Bears

The Fordland Lady Eagles welcomed in the Conway Lady Bears Monday night in a key Summit Conference contest. The Lady Eagles came out and scored first off a layup by Lily Kindall. Conway tried to hang close as they took their first lead off a three point basket by Arianna Hughes. Fordland responded with a bucket by Emma Trotter giving the lead back to the Lady Eagles. On the next trip down the floor Conway got a score by Madison Thompson to give the Lady Bears the lead once again. Kindall got another quick bucket for Fordland to give the Lady Eagles the lead that they would never relinquish. Fordland went on a 12-2 run to end the quarter off a barrage of scoring by Kindall and Trotter as well as two points from Kayleigh Steimel and the Lady Eagles took a 16-7 lead to the bench after the first quarter of play.

Kenzie Haskins decided to get into the action to start the second quarter as she hit back to back to back 3-pointers putting Fordland up 25-7. A free throw by Hughes and a bucket from Maddy Officer briefly stopped the run by the Lady Eagles. Fordland then responded with back to back buckets from Bojko and Steimel and the the Lady Eagles took a 29-12 lead to the locker room.

Fordland came out in the third quarter and put the game out of reach outscoring the Lady Bears 18-8. Shelby Thomason got into the scoring column scoring buckets within :40 seconds of one another to start the quarter. Kindall and Trotter caught on fire once again in the third as Kindall finished with five in the quarter and Trotter with eight behind two 3-point baskets. Fordland took a 47-20 lead to end the third quarter.

Fordland was able to build up a 30 point lead with 5:45 to remain in the game and the clock continued to run after that. The Lady Eagles finished the game on a 9-3 run with buckets from Thomason, Haskins and Bailey Cook. Trotter topped it off with her third 3-pointer on the night. Trotter led all Lady Eagles with 19, Haskins and Kindall each had 11, Thomason ended with 6, Steimel 4, Bojko and Cook with 2 each. Fordland is back in action Thursday night at home for another Summit Conference game again Gainesville. Fordland sits atop the Summit Conference with a 5-0 record. A win Thursday night will guarantee them at least of a share of the conference championship. Tip-off Thursday night will be 6pm.
