Ice To Cause Slippery Conditions
The National Weather Service has placed Fordland under a Winter Weather Advisory from midnight tonight to 3pm on Monday. The NWS states that Fordland can expect precipitation to begin falling around midnight tonight in the form of sleet; however, quickly transition over to freezing rain. Once the precipitation changes over to freezing rain, travelling conditions will deteriorate quickly. Freezing rain is predicted to remain falling from 3am to noon on Monday. The National Weather Service stated that roads will be slick and the Monday morning commute will be affected by the icy conditions. Fordland is forecasted to receive upwards of .25″ of ice. As ice begins to form and the prediction of wind gusts of upwards of 30mph, there is the potential for brief power outages as well as damage to trees.
If you must get out and drive on the Monday morning commute the NWS warns people to allow for extra time to get to where you are going. Ice can and will form on roadways that are untreated and can lead to dangerous travel. Temperatures are not expected to rise above freezing until around 1pm Monday afternoon. Be sure to slow down on your Monday morning commute and leave plenty of room between you and the car in front of you.
The National Weather Service says that if we can make it through this next round of winter weather, things will improve drastically. The NWS says that temperatures will reach near 50 degrees on Tuesday and approach the mid 50’s by Wednesday.
