Girls Dominate in First Round of Tournament

The Fordland Lady Eagles traveled to Galena on Thursday night to take on Exeter in the Galena Lady Bear Classic. Fordland came out in the first quarter and Kenzie Haskins hit a three point basket just 14 seconds into the game, and the girls did not look back from there. After the first quarter of play the Lady Eagles were cruising with a 16 point lead at 28-12. The second quarter Fordland outscored Exeter by the count of 10-2 and went to the locker room at the half with a 38-14 lead. Exeter tried to keep pace with the Lady Eagles in the third; however, Fordland outscored them 17-13 in the quarter and went to the final frame with a 55-27 lead. The Lady Eagles again showed their dominance in the fourth quarter outscoring Exeter 16-6 and came away with the victory 71-33. Fordland was led by Emma Trotter with 18 points, followed by Haskins with 17 and Kayleigh Steimel with 16. The Lady Eagles will play in the semifinal round of the tournament on Friday at 8:45 against New Covenant Academy. Fordland improved to 11-4 on the season while Exeter falls to 3-5.
