Fordland Boys Win On the Road

The Fordland boys went on the road on Tuesday to play in a non conference matchup against the Hurley Tigers. This was a make up from a game that was originally scheduled for January 12, but was cancelled due to inclement weather. Fordland previously defeated Hurley in the Verona Tournament early in the season but Head Coach John Vickers knew it would be much tougher playing them on their home court. Vickers felt confident that the boys could pull out a road win, but knew they were going to have to play well. This all after multiple days of school closings due to the weather, and they have also been unable to practice.

The Eagles came out in the first half and struggled a bit offensively, but they were able to create on the defensive side of the ball and went into the locker room with a 26-21 lead. Hurley came out in the third quarter looking to close the gap, but Fordland was able to keep pace with the Tigers finishing the third quarter with a 36-32 lead. The Eagles were never able to pull away from Hurley but they never relinquished the lead as the Tigers cut the lead to one 47-46 with 2:45 remaining. After trading buckets Fordland kept the lead 49-48 going into the final minute of play. The Eagles were able to extend the lead 51-48 with :28 seconds remaining. Two free throws by Isaac Vickers with :03.3 seconds remaining put the game out of reach for Hurley and Fordland was able to get the victory 53-48.

Fordland has been winners of 2 out of their last 3 ballgames. They look to continue on their winning ways as they travel to Koshkonong on Friday night. JV is scheduled to tip off at 6pm with the Varsity to follow. Koshkonong is 6-9 on the season. The only like opponent between the Bluejays and Fordland is Houston. Koshkonong fell to the Tigers by 22 back in November, while the Eagles defeated Houston by 7 just last week. Just as it was with Hurley, going on the road is never easy and the boys will need to be ready to play. Fordland’s next home game will be next Tuesday January 30 against Norwood in Summit Conference play.
