Eagles Survive the Bluejays

The Fordland Eagles boys basketball team hopped on a bus and travelled an hour and forty five minutes on Friday evening to travel to Koshkonong to take on the Bluejays on their home court. The Eagles came out ready to play and jumped out on Koshkonong and after an electrifying dunk by Isaac Vickers, Fordland held onto a 31-17 in the second quarter. The Eagles continued to battle and took a lead into halftime 33-21.

The Bluejays were determined to battle back in the second half, and Fordland could not build on their halftime lead but held the lead 43-36 after three quarters of play. This is where the game took an exciting turn as Koshkonong continued to battle. Fordland clinged to 47-45 lead with just 1:28 to go in the game after letting go of a 20 point lead earlier in the game. After a freethrow Fordland built up a three point lead 48-45 with :54 seconds remaining. The Bluejays score and bucket to cut the lead back to two 49-47 with :16.5 seconds remaining and later tied it at 49. With :03.3 seconds to go, Vickers sank two freethrows and Koshkonong could not get a bucket and Fordland picked up the 51-49 victory on the road.

Fordland improved to 6-12 on the season, but have won three of their last four games on the road. The schedule does not get any easier for the Eagles as they will be at home for a Summit Conference contest against Norwood on Tuesday night. This will be their first home game since December 12, making it 46 days since the boys have been able to play in front of the home crowd. They will also welcome Marion C. Early for a home game on Friday night for the schools Homecoming.
